Last week, Global Arbitration Review published their annual Who’s Who Legal Arbitration 2020: Expert Witnesses Analysis, announcing the world’s most highly regarded arbitration experts. Compass Lexecon had 19 experts recognized from North America, EMEA, and Latin America. Six of these experts were named amongst the Global Elite Thought Leaders in Arbitration, receiving the highest number of nominations from corporate counsel, peers and other market sources.
In North America, expert Manuel A. Abdala topped the Global Elite Thought Leaders list for the second year in a row, with Pablo T. Spiller, Pablo D. López Zadicoff and Carla Chavich also ranking in the top 10. Manuel A. Abdala was described as “terrific” and “an immensely experienced testifier in commercial and investor-state arbitrations globally and is heralded as ‘a star’ in damages, valuations and regulatory work.” Pablo T. Spiller is referred to as a “Global Elite Thought Leader with a track record of significant appointments worldwide.” Pablo López Zadicoff is praised as a “valuations specialist who is incredibly sharp, talented and thorough in his analysis, able to deploy spectacular testifying skills”. Carla Chavich, the only female Global Elite Thought Leader in North America, is quoted as being a “strikingly smart and quick-thinking expert witness.” Peers praise her as “especially well versed in the valuation of extractive industry assets”.
In the EMEA region, Boaz Moselle was among the top five Global Elite Thought Leaders. Boaz is described as “an exceptionally good practitioner who is hailed as an authority in gas arbitration matters”. Julian Delamer is praised for “his ability to analyze and explain complex technical issues in layman terms”. Neil Dryden is quoted as being an “exceptional and robustly unpartisan expert with pan-industry experience in damages, antitrust and competition matters”.
In Latin America, Sebastian Zuccon, the only recognized expert as Global Elite Thought Leader in the region, was described as being “renowned for his expertise in the assessment of damages in treaty disputes.” Sources describe him as “clear and precise when setting out his findings” as well as “highly experienced across a variety of industries”. Marcelo Schoeters was described as a “damages specialist with a strong background in the energy and electricity sectors”.
Other Compass Lexecon professionals named in the Who’s Who Legal Arbitration 2020: Expert Witnesses Analysis include the following: Charles Augustine, Lorenzo Coppi, Daniel R. Fischel, Joseph Kalt, Miguel Nakhle, Jorge Padilla, Alejandro Requejo, David Sevy, Nadine Watson, and Elena Zoido.
In addition, Compass Lexecon Senior Vice President Gustavo De Marco, based in Miami, was recognized as a Future Leader in Arbitration. These professionals, aged 45 and under, are considered based on their current achievements to be future leaders in the international arbitration community.
Nominees for the Who’s Who Legal Arbitration: Expert Witness list are selected based on an independent, comprehensive survey of both general counsel and private practice lawyers worldwide. The professionals are acknowledged for their depth of knowledge in this field, as well as their skill in giving expert oral evidence in commercial arbitrations, encompassing examination in chief, cross-examination and, increasingly, witness conferencing.
The Who’s Who Legal Arbitration listing follows Compass Lexecon’s ranking as the top expert witness firm by Global Arbitration Review in the GAR 100 Expert Witness Firms’ Power Index, published in April this year.
