Compass Lexecon has been recognized as one of the leading competition economics consulting firms by the Global Competition Review (“GCR”) for the 15th year in its annual Economics 21 survey.
Compass Lexecon topped the list with the most competition economists. Described as the “global behemoth” with an “extremely highly regarded antitrust group”, Compass Lexecon advised on 334 antitrust litigation matters and 178 merger control matters around the world during the research period. Merger work included the Sprint/T-Mobile merger, the IBM/Red Hat merger, the Aon/Willis Towers Watson merger; the Bombardier/Alstom deal; the NVIDIA/Mellanox merger; the E.ON/Innogy merger; the Danaher acquisition of the GE Life Sciences Biopharma division; the Wesco-Anixter merger; the Peabody Energy/Arch Coal joint venture; and P&G’s acquisition of Billie.
Additionally, four mergers that Compass Lexecon advised on were recognized in the 2020 GCR awards as the top merger control matters in the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific:
- Matter of the Year: T-Mobile’s acquisition of Sprint and the required divestiture of assets to DISH Network
- Merger Control Matter of the Year in the Americas: Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox
- Merger Control Matter of the Year in Europe: IBM’s acquisition of software company Red Hat
- Merger Control Matter of the Year in Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa: GlaxoSmithKline’s Acquisition of Pfizer.
The GCR 100 is an independent, comprehensive listing of the world’s top competition practices based on quantitative and qualitative analyses. Each entrant for the Economics 21 is assessed based on several criteria, including the number of dedicated antitrust economists, the number of affiliated economists and – most importantly – its work on competition matters over the past year.
