In August 2024, Mission Veterinary Partners (MVP) and Southern Veterinary Partners (SVP) announced a merger that formed one of the largest owners of veterinary practices in the United States. SVP, based in Birmingham, Alabama, runs more than 400 vet practices, while MVP, based in Southfield, Michigan, runs more than 330.

Dr. Loren Smith and Compass Lexecon teams provided compliance and economic support for the transaction. Separate Compass Lexecon teams assisted the parties in navigating the FTC’s in-depth investigation, including providing extensive analyses into specific regions and participating in calls with FTC Staff. The deal received full clearance in October 2024.

Dr. Smith was supported by a team of over 20 people at Compass Lexecon. Chris Rybak served as overall chief of staff for the matter, while the individual teams were led by Peter Marlantes, Daniel Stone, Nauman Ilias, Mario Escarcega, Will Lobo, and Isaac Cohen. Other team members included Michael Foley, Benjamin Rosenbaum, Donovan Kaddis, Rebecca Felix, Yuxin Wang, Asteris Dougalis, Henry Kalil-Felbinger, Ian Fife, Ishaan Goenka, Junru Wu, Levi Bognar, Maksym Sherman, Matthew McCabe, Meghan Oldfield, and Noah Harrigan.

Compass Lexecon worked closely with Matt Reilly, Samantha Morelli, Kevin Jonke, and Dan Zach of Kirkland & Ellis LLP.
