Compass Lexecon experts Jorge Padilla (Senior Managing Director, EMEA) and David Sevy (Executive Vice President) will speak at the annual Chatham House Competition Policy Conference on 23 May in London. Jorge will chair a panel on merger control in an environment of trade tensions and populism and David will discuss antitrust tools and the challenges of the digital economy.
The conference brings together international experts and national regulators to discuss how important public interest considerations, evolving marketplaces, and advances in technology are reshaping thinking on antitrust policy and the regulation of markets.
Speakers include Jason Furman (Professor of the Practice of Economic Policy, Harvard Kennedy School), Howard Shelanski (Professor of Law, Georgetown University), Cecilio Madero Villarejo (Deputy Director-General of DG Competition, European Commission), Makan Delrahim (Assistant Attorney General of the Antitrust Division, US Department of Justice), and Amelia Fletcher (Professor of Competition Policy at the Centre for Competition Policy, University of East Anglia).
Discussion themes include:
- A consumer welfare approach versus market regulation
- Potential changes to the consumer welfare approach to encompass concerns other than price-related effects
- Advances in technology and the rise of new and unseen competition concerns
- The realities of AI and big data for competition and market regulation
