Leading Hedge Fund Activism and Corporate Governance Expert Professor Wei Jiang Affiliates with Compass Lexecon

Compass Lexecon is pleased to announce that Professor Wei Jiang, the Arthur F. Burns Professor of Free and Competitive Enterprise in the Finance and Economics Division at Columbia Business School and Director of the Jerome A. Chazen Institute of International Business at Columbia Business School, has affiliated with Compass Lexecon. Professor Jiang is a preeminent scholar in corporate governance and has done pioneering research in the area of hedge fund activism and related areas such as the appraisal remedy in Delaware. She has published extensively in top economics, finance, accounting, and law journals, and her research has been frequently featured in major media, including The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, Institutional Investor, Money, Fortune, Business Week, The New York Times, and The Financial Times. Professor Jiang has received numerous awards for research excellence, including the Smith-Breeden Distinguished Paper Prize from the Journal of Finance and the Michael J. Brennan Best Paper Award from the Review of Financial Studies, as well as best paper prizes from the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, the Midwest Finance Association, the FMA Consortium on Activist Investors, the Western Finance Association, Chicago Quantitative Alliance, UK Inquire, the Q-Group, and the IRRC Institute. She is currently an associate editor at the Journal of Finance, and has served on the editorial boards of Review of Financial Studies and Management Science.

Professor Jiang has taught courses in Corporate Finance, Corporate Governance, Institutional Investors, Activist Investing, Empirical Methods in Finance Research, and Panel Data Econometrics in the Masters, MBA/EMBA, and Ph.D. programs. She is a five-time recipient of teaching excellence awards at Columbia Business School since 2005. Professor Jiang is also a Senior Fellow at the Program on Corporate Governance at Harvard Law School, and a Research Associate of the NBER – Law and Economics and previously was a Scholar-in-Residence at Columbia Law School.

Professor Jiang received her B.A. and M.A. in international economics from Fudan University (China), and Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago in 2001 after which she joined Columbia Business School. She was an investment banking associate at Prudential Securities (Shanghai) before pursuing her Ph.D. degree.
