Renowned IO Professor Luís Cabral Affiliates with Compass Lexecon

We are pleased to announce that Luís Cabral, the Paganelli-Bull Professor of Economics and International Business and Chair of the Economics Department at the NYU Stern School of Business, has affiliated with Compass Lexecon.

Professor Cabral is the author of the widely used Introduction to Industrial Organization, which has been translated into multiple languages and adopted by hundreds of universities worldwide.

Professor Cabral's research is focused on the dynamics of firm competition, both from the antitrust and from the strategy perspectives. His research topics are broad and include mergers, big tech, innovation, and corporate reputation, and he has had a particular focus on entertainment and network industries. Professor Cabral’s research has been published in leading academic journals, including the American Economic Review, Econometrica, and the Review of Economic Studies. Professor Cabral was the Managing Editor of the Journal of Industrial Economics from 1999-2003 and has been a Co-Editor of the Journal of Economics and Management Strategy since 2004. From 2009-2011, he was President of the European Association for Research in Industrial Economics.

Professor Cabral’s research is frequently covered by television (e.g., NBC), radio (e.g., BBC), and press (e.g., The Wall Street Journal) outlets. Professor Cabral’s research and opinions have also enjoyed media coverage internationally in Brazil, Chile, Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

Professor Cabral also has experience as an expert witness. He has served as a consultant for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the Bank of Portugal, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, the OECD, the European Commission, Portugal’s Minister of Finance, and other companies and government institutions.
