Compass Lexecon is pleased to announce that Marius Schwartz has joined the firm as a Senior Consultant. Dr. Schwartz is Professor of Economics at Georgetown University. He previously served as Chief Economist of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Acting Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Economics and Economics Director of Enforcement at the Antitrust Division of the US Department of Justice.

Dr. Schwartz specializes in the application of microeconomics to competition and regulation and has served as an expert economist on horizontal and vertical mergers, collaboration among competitors, horizontal restraints, and regulatory interventions. Dr. Schwartz has published extensively on topics in industrial organization, regulation, and telecommunications.

During his time at the FCC, he worked on various matters in the communications area, including reform of universal service, the Level 3/Global Crossing merger, and the complex commercial agreements in the Verizon Wireless/SpectrumCo transaction that affected multiple markets, including broadband access, video, mobile wireless, and bundles of these services. For his work at the FCC, then-FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski called Dr. Schwartz an "outstanding Chief Economist," adding that the FCC "relied heavily on his input and analysis to make key decisions."

Jon Orszag, a Senior Managing Director of Compass Lexecon stated, "We are thrilled that Marius has affiliated with Compass Lexecon. He is one of the world's leading antitrust experts, combining his experiences in academics, government, and consulting. Marius further deepens our expertise on telecommunications issues."

Dr. Schwartz added, "I am excited to join Compass Lexecon, which has a well-earned reputation for top-notch work. I have long admired the Compass Lexecon team – both its experts and its high-quality staff and I cannot wait to start working with them."
