The energy transition requires a substantial expansion of electricity networks, but growth is currently facing a number of regulatory barriers in Europe.

Compass Lexecon economists Fabien Roques, Anton Burger, Simon Malleret and Tim Jäger, conducted a study “Prospects of Innovative Grid Technologies”, commissioned by CurrENT and Breakthrough Energy. In the study, the authors analyse the economic potential of innovative grid technologies (IGTs) and their contribution to the EU policy objectives on decarbonisation. They also identify regulatory best practices to unleash the potential of IGTs.
