Daniel Urdaneta is an economist with Compass Lexecon based in Santiago. Mr. Urdaneta is an economist and financial analyst with more than eight years of professional experience, specializing in finance, economic consulting, and quantitative analysis.
Throughout his career in competition analysis, Daniel has worked on high-profile in-depth merger investigations in Chile in the Energy and Telecommunications industries, with close involvement at the initial M&A assessment, fact-finding, analysis, and decision-making stages. His experience also covers antitrust litigation (conduct and damages) and market investigations on behalf of industry-leading corporate clients.
Prior to Compass Lexecon, Daniel worked as an analyst for Latin America at macro policy research firm Medley Global Advisors (a division of Energy Aspects Ltd.), covering Chile and Venezuela’s financial markets, monetary policy, and politics. He also served key roles as a trader, investment strategist and quantitative analyst in the financial industry, combining sound foundations in economics and finance to identify investment opportunities based on intra-industry analysis.
Daniel holds a M.A. in Economics from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and a B.A. in Economics from Universidad Central de Venezuela. He also holds the CFA® (Chartered Financial Analyst) designation and is a member of the CFA Society Chile.
His areas of interest focus on empirical industrial organization (including public policy impact and event study analysis), corporate finance theory, and financial economics.
