Elena Zoido is an Executive Vice President with Compass Lexecon based in Madrid.
Elena has 19 years of experience as an economic consultant. Her focus is on the application of economic analysis and econometric techniques in the context of competition policy matters and the quantification of damages in litigation and arbitration. She has advised clients from a wide range of industries, in all fields of competition, and in multiple jurisdictions, including the European Union, Spain, the UK, France, Italy, the U.S., and countries in Latin America. She has given expert testimony before the European Commission, the Spanish competition authorities, international arbitration courts, and Spanish courts.
Elena has advised on numerous merger cases both before the European Commission and in other jurisdictions. Some examples are Holcim/Cemex, Telefónica/DTS, Amadeus/Navitaire, Ferroatlántica/Globe Specialty Metals, and Hutchison/Orange Austria.
Elena has ample experience in the economics of Art. 101 and Art. 102. Examples of this work include investigations of information sharing agreements in the car rental market, parallel trade in the pharmaceutical industry, or pricing practices in telecommunications. She also regularly advises clients in cartel damages litigation (including Trucks, Spanish Envelopes cartel, Smart Card Chips, several Car Parts cases).
Elena holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University and an M.A. in Economics and Finance from CEMFI. She also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in EC competition law from King’s College London.
She is recognized as a Thought Leader in the Who’s Who Legal Competition Economists listing and featured in the 2021 Global Competition Review Women in Antitrust Survey, where she is recognized among the top female economists in global antitrust.
