Professor Wright is an Academic Affiliate with Compass Lexecon. He is a graduate of Stanford University (PhD, Economics, 1996). He is currently the Lim Chong Yah Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics at the National University of Singapore.

His research focuses on the economics of digital platforms, focusing on competition policy and strategy issues, with particular interest in marketplaces, app stores, booking platforms, search platforms, and payment platforms. His recent work also includes research on the strategy and competition policy issues related to data and Artificial Intelligence. His work has been published extensively in journals on economic issues related to platforms, competition policy and regulation, including the American Economic Review, American Economic Journal: Microeconomics, Economic Journal, Journal of the European Economic Association, Management Science, RAND Journal of Economics, and the Quarterly Journal of Economics. Since 2019, he has been the co-editor of the International Journal of Industrial Organisation and handles many of the submissions to the journal on digital platform-related topics.

He has consulted on competition and regulatory issues for regulatory authorities and commercial entities including platforms running digital marketplaces and payment schemes.

He is a member of the Singapore Competition Appeal Board that hears appeals against the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore’s decisions, and a member of the Energy Markets Authority Board that oversees the Energy Market Authority which regulates the energy sector in Singapore.

He has been listed in the Lexology Index (formerly Who’s Who Legal) for Competition Economists since 2011.
