Paris

Maël is an Economist at Compass Lexecon, based in Paris.

Maël has significant experience working on economic and regulatory issues in energy markets. His expertise spans from gas networks, storage and liquified natural gas (LNG) to electricity networks and renewable energy and covers strategic, commercial and regulatory aspects.

At Compass Lexecon, Maël has worked on a wide range of assignments related to electricity market design, network regulation, flexibility, transmission system and interconnection business models. Moreover, Maël has worked on several modelling projects in Europe, both optimising the short-term dispatch of power markets and determining the long-term investment decisions up to 2050 involving deep decarbonisation. Maël was also involved in an arbitration project in the power sector, in which he assessed profit losses resulting from regulatory reforms.

Before joining Compass Lexecon, Maël worked at the French energy regulator, CRE, in the electricity transmission department. He was in charge of investment approvals, audits of offshore connection investment costs, grid access conditions for offshore wind, interconnectors and storage. Maël developed, together with the team, the new network tariff structure methodology as well as on the design of incentive regulation.

Maël started his career in 2016 as a strategy analyst in ENGIE, looking at LNG markets and usages. Maël also worked in Storengy, the main gas storage company, on gas storage commercial offers and on the regulatory framework.
