Orjan Sandewall

Dr. Orjan Sandewall is a Vice President in Compass Lexecon’s London office.

He has more than 15 years’ experience of economic consulting, and has worked on competition investigations, disputes, regulatory matters, and mergers across numerous sectors and jurisdictions. He has applied a wide range of quantitative techniques in front of competition authorities, regulators and courts.

Recent merger cases in front of the CMA include Saint-Gobain/GCP, IVC/Independent Vets, and Huws Gray/Grafton. He has also been in involved in several prominent EU Phase II cases: E.ON/Innogy, Bayer/Monsanto and Deutsche Börse/LSE, as well as numerous confidential litigation cases and merger risk assessments. Some earlier notable cases include BAA Airports (CC), High Court litigation following on from the OFT Decision in Gaviscon, the Libor test case, the US$1.6 billion settlement of Bank of America/MBIA and the FCA investigation into investment and corporate banking. He has broad experience with regulatory matters, having assisted regulators and regulated businesses in the water, telecoms, and postal sectors.

Prior to joining Compass Lexecon, Orjan was a member of the competition policy teams at two other economic consultancies. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the London School of Economics and a Postgraduate Diploma in EC Competition Law from King’s College London. His academic research has appeared in Journal of Finance, Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, and Labour Economics. He is also the author of several policy papers
