Pekka Sääskilahti is a Senior Vice President and Head of Finland and Scandinavia at Compass Lexecon.

He has economic consulting experience in competition cases regarding merger clearance, abuse of dominance, quantification of damages, and in intellectual property matters. He has worked more than 15 years in the telecommunications and high-tech industries as an in-house economist, as well as in management consulting. Pekka also currently serves as Professor of Practice at Hanken School of Economics, where he teaches intellectual property and competition economics, pricing, and strategy.

Recently, Pekka provided economic advice to parties in merger proceedings of Bonnier/HSS Media (newspapers), Caverion/TM Voima (substation and transmission lines), Lantmännen/Sponmill (frozen bakery products), Valmet/Neles (valves manufacturing), Cargotec/Konecranes (container handling equipment), Framatome/Rolls-Royce (nuclear safety and control instrumentation), Altia/Arcus (beverages), Mehiläinen/Pihlajalinna (healthcare), Loomis/Automatia (financial services), Donges Steel/Ruukki Building Systems (steel construction), Sanoma/Alma Media (newspapers), Kesko/Heinon Tukku (food service), Caverion/Maintpartner (industrial maintenance services) and S-Group/Stockmann Herkku (food retail).

He has also advised clients in relation to Article 101 and 102 matters, intellectual property royalties and licensing terms, valuation, damages, and regulatory policy. He has provided testimony in front of the Finnish Market Court and an arbitral tribunal.

Before joining Compass Lexecon, Pekka was the Head of Research and Director of Economics at Nokia, and his prior positions included Head of Pricing Analytics and Director of Economics for Nokia’s smartphone business among others. His work at Nokia focused on pricing, competition economics, intellectual property licensing, and strategy development.

Pekka has a Ph.D. and a M.Sc. in economics from the Helsinki School of Economics, which included year-long visits to the University of Warwick and the Toulouse School of Economics. He has published his economics research in academic journals including the Journal of Economics & Management Strategy, the Scandinavian Journal of Economics, the Journal of Competition Law & Economics, and the Economics of Innovation and New Technology.

He is listed as Thought Leader amongst competition economists by Who’s Who Legal.

His working languages are Finnish and English.
